Norm Sutaria

He is a Director of Community Engagement and joined NYC FIRST in October 2014 after being a dedicated volunteer for the previous five years. Introduced to robotics as a FIRST LEGO League coach, he has served as an FRC lead queuer, FIRST LEGO League judge and co-coordinator of NYC FIRST's exhibit at the World Maker Faire.

His professional background includes middle school teaching, curriculum design, K-12 professional development and photojournalism. After graduating from Syracuse University, he worked as a photojournalist for four years before becoming an AmeriCorps volunteer and pursuing his masters degree at Montclair State University, whereupon he became a middle school computer applications teacher in the Montclair (N.J.) Public Schools.

Realizing teachers at all levels needed just as much technology assistance, he transitioned to an instructional designer position at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus where he helped faculty integrate technology into their teaching. He has also worked at NYC's Office of Emergency Management. Norm is actively involved in amateur radio and the NY International Fringe Festival. He also enjoys DIY electronics, camping, kayaking and riding his bike in the city.
